Bibliometric and Thematic Analysis of User Education Programs in the Indian Academic Environment: Towards an Integrated Model for Information Literacy Enhancement

4 Department of Electrical Engineering RWTH Aachen University, Germany

Abstract

User education programs in academic libraries have emerged as a critical mechanism for enhancing information literacy, particularly in rapidly evolving digital environments. This study conducts a comprehensive bibliometric and thematic analysis of user education practices within the Indian academic context. Drawing exclusively on selected scholarly works, the research examines publication trends, thematic evolution, methodological approaches, and conceptual frameworks associated with user education initiatives. The study employs a structured analytical methodology combining bibliometric indicators and thematic coding to identify dominant research patterns and gaps. Findings reveal a strong emphasis on information literacy, digital resource utilization, and user behavior analysis, while highlighting deficiencies in integrated frameworks and standardized implementation strategies. The study proposes an integrated model for information literacy enhancement, synthesizing pedagogical, technological, and behavioral dimensions. The research contributes to the theoretical and practical advancement of user education by offering a structured approach to program design and evaluation. Limitations include reliance on secondary data and restricted reference scope. The study provides a foundation for future empirical investigations and policy-oriented interventions in academic library systems.
