Filling the Inter-Eyelash Space as A Method of Optical Thickening of The Eyelash Row: Physiological and Aesthetic Reasons
Abstract
In the context of the sustained and pronounced expansion of the global permanent makeup market, whose volume is forecast to reach 332.6 million US dollars by 2033 with an average annual growth rate of about 7.9%, there is an objective need for rigorous scientific verification and standardization of high-precision technological approaches, including micropigmentation of the interlash space. In this regard, it is appropriate to consider this procedure as an object of comprehensive interdisciplinary analysis, incorporating an assessment of the physiological, psychophysical, and technological determinants that define the level of safety of the intervention and the predictability of the aesthetic outcome. The methodological framework of the study was constructed on the basis of a systematic review and deductive analysis of scientific publications indexed in the international databases Scopus and Web of Science, with an emphasis on the anatomical features of the eyelid margin, the regularities of the psychophysics of linear and contour pattern perception, and materials on the physicochemical and structural characteristics of pigments. In addition, empirical validation of the proprietary micropigmentation technique was carried out, which made it possible to correlate the theoretical conclusions with the actual technological parameters of the procedure. Analytical synthesis of the data showed that the phenomenon of visual densification of the eyelash row is conditioned by the mechanism of enhancement of contour contrast, the implementation of which requires submillimeter accuracy of pigment implantation. Violation of this requirement is associated with an increased risk of pigment particle migration and potential effects on the functional state of the meibomian glands, which assigns particular importance to strict adherence to the protocol parameters of depth, angle, and trajectory of insertion. The empirical testing of the proprietary technique demonstrated a pronounced optimization of the technological process, manifested in a reduction of procedure time by up to 30% while maintaining maximum accuracy of pigment positioning; this circumstance was indirectly confirmed by the results of participation in professional permanent makeup championships, where the technique ensured prize-winning positions and the receipt of a Grand Prix. The materials developed in the course of the study represent scientifically substantiated protocols for performing micropigmentation of the interlash space and a system of objective metrics for assessing result quality, which makes a significant contribution to the process of standardizing aesthetic dermopigmentation and has high applied relevance for specialists in the field of permanent makeup, dermatocosmetology, as well as for regulatory bodies of the healthcare system.
