Advanced Analysis of Plastic Waste Bioconversion Through Polyethylene-Degrading Bacillus sp. VC2 Systems

4 Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering National Institute of Technology, Bhopal, India

Abstract

The accumulation of polyethylene-based plastic waste has become a significant environmental concern due to its high durability, resistance to natural degradation, and widespread use across industrial and consumer sectors. Conventional waste management approaches, including landfilling and incineration, present ecological and economic limitations. Biological degradation using microbial systems has emerged as a promising alternative for sustainable plastic waste management. This study presents an advanced analytical review of plastic waste bioconversion through polyethylene-degrading Bacillus sp. VC2 systems. The paper evaluates the mechanisms of microbial degradation, the metabolic role of bacterial communities, and the potential conversion of polyethylene into environmentally compatible by-products. A comprehensive synthesis of existing literature demonstrates that Bacillus species possess significant enzymatic capabilities for polymer breakdown. The study further develops a conceptual framework linking microbial activity, polymer fragmentation, and bioconversion efficiency. Findings indicate that Bacillus sp. VC2 represents a promising biological agent for polyethylene degradation, although degradation rates remain influenced by environmental conditions, substrate characteristics, and microbial adaptation. The research contributes to the growing field of sustainable bioremediation and highlights future directions for optimizing bacterial plastic degradation systems.
