Development of an IoT-Based Automated Clothesline Retrieval and Monitoring System Using the Blynk Mobile Application Framework
Abstract
The increasing dependence on smart home automation systems has led to the development of Internet of Things (IoT)-enabled domestic appliances aimed at improving convenience, efficiency, and environmental adaptability. This study presents the design and development of an IoT-based automated clothesline retrieval and monitoring system integrated with the Blynk mobile application framework. The primary objective is to address the limitations of conventional clothes drying systems, particularly in regions with unpredictable weather conditions, by enabling automated retrieval of clothes based on environmental sensing and remote monitoring capabilities.
The system integrates sensors such as rain detection and humidity modules with a microcontroller-based control unit, enabling real-time decision-making for clothesline retraction. The Blynk platform is utilized to provide a user-friendly interface for remote monitoring and manual override functions. The study builds upon existing automated laundry systems and enhances them through cloud-based IoT integration and mobile accessibility. Prior research highlights the cultural and environmental relevance of clothesline systems in both domestic and climatic contexts, emphasizing their functional evolution over time (Barnard, 2021).
Experimental implementation demonstrates that the proposed system significantly improves response time to weather changes while reducing the risk of clothes exposure to rain and moisture. The system also enhances user convenience and operational reliability compared to traditional and semi-automated systems. The findings suggest that IoT-enabled clothesline systems can play a significant role in modern smart home ecosystems, particularly in optimizing household energy use and improving daily domestic workflows.
