Lean Production Optimization Through SAP PP and SAP Digital Manufacturing Integration
Abstract
The integration of production planning with digitally enabled manufacturing execution represents an important pathway for improving production responsiveness, process visibility, and operational coordination. This research examines a conceptual framework for Lean Production Optimization Through SAP PP and SAP Digital Manufacturing Integration, with particular emphasis on the relationship between production planning, shop-floor information, process conditions, and adaptive operational decision-making. Because the supplied literature is concentrated primarily on machining behavior, serrated-chip formation, cutting-force modeling, thermal-mechanical effects, and numerical prediction, the study positions these manufacturing-process findings as the technical foundation for understanding why production-planning systems require reliable, timely, and process-sensitive information. The methodology develops an integrated conceptual architecture connecting SAP Production Planning (SAP PP), SAP Digital Manufacturing, production orders, machine/process information, quality observations, and feedback-based planning decisions. The proposed framework is evaluated through analytical reasoning and hypothetical manufacturing scenarios rather than through a proprietary industrial dataset. The findings indicate that integration can theoretically reduce information latency between planning and execution, improve synchronization of production decisions with shop-floor conditions, and create a stronger basis for exception-oriented planning. The research also identifies an important limitation: the supplied references do not directly investigate SAP PP, SAP Digital Manufacturing, or lean enterprise systems. Consequently, the proposed SAP integration model is a research synthesis and conceptual framework rather than an empirically validated SAP implementation study. The paper contributes by translating process-level manufacturing intelligence into an integrated production-planning perspective and by identifying the information requirements necessary for lean-oriented digital manufacturing.
